My caucasian friend is married to a Chinese girl. He dislikes spicy food, but the girl is from Sichuan, the central of all spicy food in China. The couple currently reside at her place in Chengdu, Sichuan.

Today he told me it is 3 Celcius degree there. Normally, I replied: "People are eating spicy food more, I guess."

My friend sighed: "They eat spicy food regardless of the weather."

最近我问了一个朋友，他在干嘛。

他回答道：「陪客。」我不知道那句话是什么意思，于是就在翻译谷歌上查询，但是结果不知所云。然后我问了他，「陪客是什么意思？我知道的中文词语很少。」

过了很长时间他都没有回答，所以我用了谷歌图片找了陪客的图片（嗯嗯，我很机智对不对）。这时电脑屏幕上显示出了许多穿几乎没衣服的女人的照片！我简直不敢相信，他去妓院了，这还用告诉了我？

第二天他说了，「是见客户的意思！」

谷歌很靠不住的。 =__=

culture shock -- part two

Recently I asked a friend what he was doing.

He answered with two Chinese characters, which resulted in 'Peiqia' if you put them in Google translate.

I responded by asking him what that meant while apologizing for my bad Chinese.

He didn't answer for a long time, so I went to Google image and put those two characters in the search field (yes, yes, resourceful aren't I). Then pictures of scantily-dressed girls appear. I couldn't believe my eyes. Was this guy going to a cathouse and feeling he had to tell me about it?

The next day he said that it meant meeting a customer.

Google is so unreliable. =__=

QQ空间

我想用QQ空间很久了，但是我不，因为大部分的导航按钮用汉字配在图像上。

图片上的中国字很难翻译。为了得到汉字的翻译，你只能复制后粘贴到一个翻译软件。图像，不那么容易。我平时事前绘制到普利科。图片上面的文字而不是文本的形式使这位学习者挠头多次！

qzone

I've been wanting to post to qzone for quite some time now, but I can't, since most navigation buttons provide Chinese characters in the form of images.

Chinese characters in image form are harder to translate. You can just copy Chinese characters in text and paste it into any translation software to get the meaning. Images, not so easy. I usually draw them first in Pleco. For navigational purpose, having Chinese characters in images instead of text surely makes this learner scratches her head many many times!
